The Maharashtra government launched the Ladki Bahin Yojana in August 2024, offering ₹1,500 in monthly financial aid to women aged 21 to 65. With a budget of ₹46,000 crore, the scheme supports women from low-income families.

In August 2024, the Maharashtra government launched a new Ladki Bahin Yojana scheme to support women by providing them with monthly financial assistance of ₹1,500. This initiative has a huge budget of nearly ₹46,000 crore and aims to improve the health and nutrition of women while strengthening their roles within their families.

The program is for women aged 21 to 65 years who come from families with a combined annual income of less than ₹2,50,000. This means that the assistance is directed toward those who need it most, helping to ease their financial stress and improve the quality of life for both the women and their families. The government recognizes that many families in Maharashtra face financial challenges, and this Ladki Bahin Yojana scheme is designed to help them.

To receive the monthly assistance, applicants must be residents of Maharashtra and have their bank accounts linked to their Aadhar numbers. This is an important requirement because it ensures that the funds are directly deposited into the beneficiaries’ accounts. This method is known as direct benefit transfer (DBT). The DBT system makes the process transparent and efficient, minimizing delays and ensuring that the support reaches the intended recipients without unnecessary obstacles.

The Ladki Bahin Yojana scheme is open to a diverse group of women. It includes married women, widows, divorced women, those who have been abandoned, and women in need. Additionally, if there is one unmarried woman in the family, she can also apply for financial assistance. This inclusive approach is outstanding as it recognizes the various circumstances that women may face and provides support to those who might often be overlooked.

By offering this financial support, the Maharashtra government aims to empower women and encourage them to take on active roles in their households and communities. With better health and nutrition, women can contribute more effectively to their families, which can create a positive ripple effect on society as a whole.

Lastly, this initiative is a significant step toward enhancing the status of women in Maharashtra. It promotes their independence and improves their overall well-being. The government’s commitment to this cause is evident in the substantial financial allocation and the thoughtful design of the program, which prioritizes the needs of women from different backgrounds. This support can help create a stronger, healthier community for everyone, making it a vital program for the state's development.
