This tribute took place on Wednesday, with French President Emmanuel Macron by his side. The cemetery is a significant site, honoring soldiers who fought alongside the French during World War I. Visuals showed PM Modi laying a wreath and offering a respectful bow at the Indian Memorial.

After the tribute, PM Modi and President Macron moved on to inaugurate the new Indian consulate in Marseille. The two leaders pressed a button to officially open the consulate, and the event was met with cheers from the gathered Indian diaspora.

During the trip, PM Modi and President Macron discussed enhancing the India-France Strategic Partnership. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing key global and regional issues. They also flew together from Paris to Marseille aboard the French Presidential Aircraft, continuing their discussions en route.

The Prime Minister also engaged with members of the Indian diaspora in Marseille, who celebrated the occasion with Indian and French flags and vibrant tricoloured headgear. The visit reflected the strong and growing ties between India and France and further emphasized India’s commitment to global diplomacy.
