Retired Karnataka DGP Om Prakash Stabbed to Death by Wife at Home
Former Karnataka police chief Om Prakash was fatally stabbed while eating lunch at his home in HSR Layout, Bengaluru, on Sunday afternoon. He had ordered a fish meal and was mid-way through lunch when he was suddenly attacked.
Wife Threw Chilli Powder and Launched Brutal Assault
Police say his wife, Pallavi (64), allegedly threw chilli powder in his eyes and stabbed him in the neck with a kitchen knife. As he struggled to escape, she continued the assault, hitting him with an oil bottle and stabbing him in multiple areas including his back, shoulder, and abdomen.
Om Prakash is believed to have struggled for 15 minutes before taking his last breath. A blanket was used to trap him, and his body was later found covered in blood.
Shocking Confession Made Over WhatsApp Video Call
After the stabbing, Pallavi reportedly called a friend, who is the wife of a retired IPS officer, and said she had “killed the monster.” She also shared a video call, showing her husband lying motionless in a pool of blood.
She later informed police herself and was arrested Monday evening.
Bottles of Toilet and Floor Cleaner Found at the Scene
Police also found two bottles—one of toilet cleaner and another of floor cleaner—near the victim’s body. This detail has led investigators to explore the mental state and potential premeditation behind the murder.
Daughter's Presence Raises Questions
The couple’s daughter, Kriti, was reportedly inside the house during the murder. She may have been on another floor and locked herself in out of fear. Her exact role—whether as a witness or otherwise—is still being investigated.
Ongoing Disputes and Domestic Abuse Allegations
Police are looking into long-standing family disputes, including property issues. Pallavi had reportedly accused her husband of abuse, drugging her, and installing surveillance cameras in the home. These claims are part of the broader investigation now handled by the Central Crime Branch Women’s Wing.
