Tata Group is investing Rs 500 crore in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital to improve its infrastructure and technology. This investment makes Tata the largest financial backer of the hospital and gives them three seats on the hospital’s board of trustees. Tata Group Chairman, N Chandrasekaran, will take over as Chairman of the Breach Candy Hospital Trust in October 2025.
The hospital will keep its original name but may be rebranded with Tata’s name, possibly as "Breach Candy, a Tata Sons associate." This move strengthens Tata’s presence in Mumbai’s healthcare sector, alongside other big companies like Adani, Reliance, and Birla.
Breach Candy Hospital’s Rich History
Breach Candy Hospital has been around since 1946 and has treated many famous people, including former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, actor Amitabh Bachchan, and businessman Dhirubhai Ambani. Over the years, the hospital has grown from a small nursing home to a well-known medical center.
Tata Group has had a long connection with the hospital. The late Ratan Tata trusted the hospital for his own medical care and supported it through Tata Trusts. The group’s new investment will help continue improving the hospital’s services and facilities.
With this investment, Tata Group is becoming an even more important part of Mumbai’s healthcare, following other big companies that are expanding in the sector.
