Today as the sunrise commences Ganesh Chaturthi all over India, this famous pandal will enter it’s 90th year of glory.

The History of Lalbaughcha Raja takes us back to 1934 when Lalbaugcha Raja Ganpati Mandal was first founded. Accordingly, The fishermen and vendors of this area prayed to lord Ganesh to have a permanent marketplace which started this tradition in Maharashtra. That year the first idol of Ganpati was dressed in the conventional attire of fishermen.

Since its inception, the idol of Lord Ganesh has been known for its immense size and careful craftsmanship with the use of adorned ornaments and jewelry. We’ve often seen Bollywood stars gather around to witness the celebration like Amitabh Bachchan, Rashmika Mandana, Shahid Kapoor, and many others.

The Kambli family of Maharashtra are the original creators of the famous idol and they have been in idol creating business since 1920’s. They began making idols for the Lalbaugcha mandal in 1935. Every year India witnesses different designs and decorations of idols for this mandal.

Mandal is located in South Mumbai’s Lalbaug Neighbouring area where this 11-day celebration takes place. On the last day of this huge celebration, Ganpati who is treated as a guest is sent back via grand procession for carrying on the Visarjan in the Arabian Sea. A huge crowd gathers together to greet Ganesh and seek his blessings for a new start in life.

Even the offerings made to Lal Baugcha Raja in 2022, summed up to the total earnings of about Rs 6.25 crore.

There’s some unknown reason why Indian festivals are filled with such profound energy. From some festive hugs to kneeling down to seek blessings of others we always carve festivals with the same spirit of brotherhood as was shown in the history. We hope Bappa brings prosperity to the households and takes all the chaos away with him.
