In the latest bout of violence in Manipur, a mob consisting of over 1,000 people set fire to the house of a Union Minister.

The incident occurred in Imphal, the capital city, and was fueled by ongoing clashes between two groups over the inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribes (ST) category. Fortunately, the Union Minister, RK Ranjan Singh, was not present at the time of the attack. The mob managed to breach the security measures and reached the minister's residence despite the imposition of a curfew in the area.

"We couldn't prevent the incident as the mob was overwhelming and we couldn't control the situation. They threw petrol bombs coming in from all directions.. from the bye lane behind the building and from the front entrance. so we simply couldn't control the mob," said Escort Commander,  L Dineshwor Singh.  Shockingly, this was not the first time the minister's house had been targeted, as it had previously been attacked in May. The clashes in Manipur erupted after a "Tribal Solidarity March" held in the hill districts on May 3.

In an effort to restore peace in the troubled state, Minister RK Ranjan Singh, who serves as the Minister of State for External Affairs and Education, held a meeting with intellectuals from the Meitei and Kuki communities.

A letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi was sent urging him to identify and condemn local politicians who may be responsible for instigating the unrest.
