Food and grocery delivery giant Zomato announced on Thursday that it will be renamed "Eternal" and revealed a new logo. This change comes more than two years after the company, led by Deepinder Goyal, started using the name internally.

In a letter to shareholders, Goyal shared that the company’s board has approved the renaming and requested shareholders to support the decision.

“If approved, our corporate website will shift from zomato.com to eternal.com, and our stock ticker will change from ZOMATO to ETERNAL,” Goyal wrote.

Under the new name Eternal, the company will manage four major businesses:
Zomato (food delivery)
Blinkit (quick commerce)
Hyperpure (restaurant supplies)
Dining Out & Payments (formerly "District")

Why the Name Change?

Goyal recalled how Zomato, originally called Foodiebay, was rebranded in 2010. Over the years, it became India's first startup to enter the BSE Sensex (on December 23, 2023).

He emphasized that the company was started with a passion for service rather than making money.

“We started using ‘Eternal’ internally after acquiring Blinkit, to separate the company from the Zomato app. Now, with Blinkit playing a big role in our future, it's time to make this change official,” Goyal explained.

What Does ‘Eternal’ Mean?

The name Eternal reflects the company's long-term vision. However, Goyal admitted that it is both an ambitious and challenging name to live up to.

“True permanence isn’t about making bold claims or showing off success. It’s about constantly evolving and delivering value,” he wrote.

If shareholders approve the change, Zomato will soon be known as Eternal Ltd. while continuing its journey in food delivery, grocery, and beyond.
