Zomato, one of India’s leading food delivery platforms, has surprised its users by announcing a name change for its parent company. The company, previously known as Zomato Limited, will now be called Eternal Limited.

What’s Changing?

CEO Deepinder Goyal informed shareholders that the company's board has approved the rebranding. With this change:

  • The corporate website will shift from zomato.com to eternal.com.
  • The stock ticker symbol will change from ZOMATO to ETERNAL.
  • Eternal Limited will oversee four key businesses:
    • Zomato (food delivery)
    • Blinkit (quick commerce)
    • Hyperpure (B2B food supply)
    • Dining-out and loyalty programs (District)

Despite the corporate name change, the Zomato app will remain unchanged, ensuring that users can continue ordering food as usual.

Social Media Reactions

The announcement sparked mixed reactions on social media. Many users found the new name odd and difficult to get used to.

  • "Why change the name? My mom likes Zomato. ‘Eternal’ sounds strange," one user commented.
  • "Zomato was a cool name! Eternal doesn’t have the same vibe. Switching to Swiggy now," joked another.
  • "First Twitter became X, now Zomato is Eternal. Why make things complicated?"

Some, however, saw the move as part of a bigger expansion strategy, similar to how Facebook rebranded to Meta and Google to Alphabet to accommodate broader business ventures.

Why the Change?

While Zomato hasn’t given a detailed reason, experts believe the new name hints at a larger vision beyond food delivery, possibly expanding into grocery deliveries, logistics, and subscription-based services.

For now, food lovers can relax—Zomato, as an app, is here to stay.
