Paris, the world-famous center of fashion, is currently hosting an exciting exhibition that highlights the Italian fashion brand Dolce & Gabbana. The exhibition, titled Du Coeur à la Main (From the Heart to the Hand), celebrates the brand's 40 years of design and craftsmanship. It is running from January 10 to March 31 at the Grand Palais, a newly renovated museum in Paris.
The exhibition showcases more than 200 stunning pieces from Dolce & Gabbana's Alta Moda and Alta Sartoria collections. Visitors can also see over 300 accessories, including beautifully handcrafted Sicilian ceramics. The collection is known for its dramatic, baroque style with bold embellishments, combining luxury and artistry. One of the standout pieces is a gown inspired by Venice’s Murano glass, decorated with glass mosaics from a famous Venetian workshop. The dress is described as "a sculpture on textile."
Opera is an important theme in the exhibition, with gowns inspired by famous Italian operas such as Bellini’s Norma and Verdi’s La Traviata. The exhibition also features large portraits of famous celebrities like Sophia Loren and Naomi Campbell, who have worked with Dolce & Gabbana.
In addition to the finished garments, the exhibition also includes live demonstrations from five seamstresses from Dolce & Gabbana's Milan atelier. Visitors can watch them create intricate pieces like corsets and dresses by hand, showing the level of craftsmanship involved in each design.
The exhibition also highlights Sicily, the birthplace of Domenico Dolce, one of the brand’s founders. Traditional Sicilian art and craftsmanship, including hand-painted carts and lace-making, are incorporated into the designs. The exhibit also reminds visitors of the global influences in fashion, such as the use of silk and brocades from India in French royal fashion.
Overall, the Du Coeur à la Main exhibition is not just a look at fashion but a tribute to the global history of couture, where different cultures and traditions have always inspired each other.
