Shein, the global fast-fashion brand, has made its comeback to India after being banned in 2020. The popular brand, known for its trendy and affordable clothing, has launched a mobile app in collaboration with Reliance Retail. The app is now available on both Android and iOS, initially serving customers in New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, with plans for a nationwide launch soon.
Shein’s Return After 2020 Ban Shein was banned by the Indian government in 2020 due to concerns over data security. Before the ban, Shein was a favorite among young shoppers for its stylish and budget-friendly clothing. Its sudden exit left a gap in the Indian market, which was later filled by local brands and competitors like H&M and Zara.
Made in India and Affordable In a major shift, Shein’s new venture in India focuses on local manufacturing. All Shein-branded products will now be designed and produced by Indian manufacturers, supporting the government’s "Make in India" initiative. The pricing remains competitive, with dresses starting at just Rs 199, making it accessible for budget-conscious shoppers.
Reliance’s Key Role Reliance Retail, India’s largest retailer, is handling Shein’s entire supply chain, ensuring compliance with Indian laws and addressing previous concerns over data security. This partnership aims to reshape India’s online fashion market by combining Shein’s global brand with local manufacturing expertise.
