Urgent Recall: Kmart's Anko Reusable Coffee Cups Pose Serious Injury Risk
Kmart has issued an urgent recall of its popular Anko Double Walled Coffee Cups with Lids after reports of serious injuries. The Product Safety NZ and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) have warned consumers to stop using these cups immediately due to a significant design flaw.
Why the Recall?
The problem lies with the lid. These cups, beloved for their double-walled insulation, lack a pressure release valve. When filled with hot liquid, the pressure from steam can build up, causing the lid to unexpectedly pop off. This sudden ejection of the hot contents poses a significant risk of serious burns. At least one injury has already been reported.
Affected Products & What to Do
The recall affects Anko Double Walled Coffee Cups with lids sold in three colors: sunset, sage, and black. The product codes are 43479030, 43479047, and 43479054. These cups were sold at Kmart stores between December 19, 2024, and March 27, 2025, in New Zealand, and between December 18, 2024, and April 7, 2025, in Australia. A fourth colour, rose gold, with SKU 43512287, was also affected in Australia.
If you own one of these cups, stop using it immediately! Return it to your nearest Kmart store for a full refund, with or without a receipt. Kmart requests that you contact them if you are unable to return the product or have gifted/sold it to someone else.
Staying Safe
This recall highlights the importance of checking for safety notices on products, especially those containing hot liquids. Always prioritize safety when using any product and promptly heed official recall warnings.
