Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's call for his resignation on Wednesday. Shah argued that his resignation would not solve Congress's problems,as the party is likely to remain in the opposition for at least 15 more years.
Shah Responds to Kharge's Demand
Amit Shah reacted to Kharge's demand for him to step down, stating that even if he resigned, it would not help the Congress party. "If my resignation would make you happy, I would consider it,but it won't end your problems. You will still remain in the opposition for the next 15 years," Shah said.
Shah also expressed disappointment that Kharge, who belongs to the Dalit community, supported what he referred to as Congress's "nefarious effort" to misrepresent his statement in the Rajya Sabha about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
Distortion of Shah's Statement
Shah emphasized that his statement had been distorted. He claimed that during elections, his remarks, along with those of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, were manipulated and edited using artificial intelligence (AI).He called on the media to present his full statement to the public to correct the record.
BJP's Commitment to Ambedkar's Principles
Amit Shah made it clear that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), both during its time as Janata Sangh and later as BJP, has always upheld the principles of Dr. Ambedkar and has worked to strengthen policies like reservations for Dalits and other backward communities. He further added, "Whenever the BJP has been in power, we have always propagated the ideals of Ambedkar ji."
Shah criticized Kharge for supporting Congress’s distorted narrative, claiming it was under the influence of Rahul Gandhi. He expressed disappointment that Kharge, a senior leader of the Dalit community, joined the Congress in undermining his statement about Ambedkar.
Congress’s Historical Treatment of Ambedkar
The Union Home Minister also pointed out Congress’s alleged history of undermining Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy. He mentioned that despite Ambedkar’s monumental contributions to India,Congress had often mocked him even after his death. Shah noted that Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, had shown hostility towards Ambedkar.
Shah reminded the public that the Congress leadership had awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor, to themselves multiple times. Nehru gave himself the Bharat Ratna in 1955,Indira Gandhi did the same in 1971, while Ambedkar was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1990 when the Congress was not in power, and a government supported by the BJP was in place.
Prime Minister Modi Supports Shah's Statement
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to criticize Congress for its historical treatment of Ambedkar. Modi listed several "sins" committed by the Congress party against Ambedkar, accusing them of attempting to erase his legacy and disrespecting the Dalit community.
In conclusion, Amit Shah strongly rejected Congress's claims and reiterated the BJP's commitment to Dr. Ambedkar’s principles, while also attacking Congress for what he described as a long-standing effort to distort history and disrespect Ambedkar's contributions to the nation.
