After facing a major electoral loss in Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal has shifted his full attention to Punjab — the only state where his party currently holds power. Kejriwal’s Ferozeshah Road bungalow in New Delhi has effectively become the Punjab strategy hub, with Punjab AAP leaders making frequent visits for closed-door meetings and political planning.

High-Stakes Political Strategy Underway

Sources reveal that Kejriwal is leaving no stone unturned to secure Punjab. Recently, he attended a 10-day Vipassana retreat in Hoshiarpur, Punjab — a deliberate choice instead of his usual Bengaluru retreat. Political analysts believe this move signals how deeply invested he is in retaining influence in Punjab.

Rajya Sabha Entry from Punjab?

In a surprising political twist, AAP has asked its Rajya Sabha MP, Sanjeev Arora, to resign and contest a by-election from Ludhiana West. Speculation is rife that if Arora wins, he will be inducted into Bhagwant Mann’s cabinet. Meanwhile, political whispers suggest that Kejriwal himself might enter the Rajya Sabha from Punjab. To add weight to this theory, Kejriwal personally launched Arora’s campaign — even though the Election Commission is yet to announce official dates for the by-election.

Farmers' Issues Pose Challenges

While Kejriwal's political chessboard is well laid out, farmer protests and the detention of senior farmer leaders in Punjab have cast a shadow. The state’s farm crisis and dissatisfaction among farmers could become a major roadblock for AAP’s political consolidation if not handled with care. Kejriwal will need to address these issues head-on to retain Punjab on the promise of good governance.

Why Punjab Matters So Much for AAP

For AAP, Punjab is more than just another state — it’s the party’s last stronghold after setbacks in other regions. Kejriwal's active involvement, frequent strategy meetings, and push to place trusted leaders in key positions signal that Punjab will define the party’s future trajectory.
