Canada Votes 2025: Get Ready for a Political Shake-Up in Southwestern Ontario!

So, April 28th, 2025 – mark your calendars! That’s when Canadians will be heading to the polls for the federal election, just a couple of months after the Ontario provincial election wraps up. And get this – the riding boundaries have been completely redrawn. This means some serious changes for areas like Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, and Sarnia. CBC Windsor is keeping a close eye on things, tracking the candidates to give you the inside scoop.

Who's Running the Race?

A few familiar faces are hoping to keep their seats. We've got Brian Masse (NDP) in Windsor West, Irek Kusmierczyk (Liberal) in the brand-new Windsor-Tecumseh-Lakeshore riding, Chris Lewis (Conservative) in Essex, Dave Epp (Conservative) in Chatham-Kent-Leamington, and Marilyn Gladu (Conservative) in Sarnia-Lambton-Bkejwanong. But with those new boundaries, it's anyone's guess how things will really shake out. It’s going to be interesting to see how these changes impact the results!

Windsor West, which is buzzing with major infrastructure projects, already has a pretty diverse field of candidates. Besides the incumbent NDP candidate, we've got entries from the People's Party of Canada (Jacob Bezaire), the Conservative Party (Harbinder Gill), and even the Communist Party (Joey Markham). Honestly, who saw *that* coming?

The new Windsor-Tecumseh-Lakeshore riding is shaping up to be a real battleground. We're seeing candidates from the People's Party (Nick Babic), the NDP (Alex Ilijoski), the Liberals (Irek Kusmierczyk), and the Conservatives (Mark McKenzie). It's going to be a tight race, that's for sure.

Over in Essex – that’s Amherstburg, Essex, Kingsville, and LaSalle – we've got Jason Henry (People's Party), Chris Lewis (Conservative), Chris Sutton (Liberal), and Lori Wightman (NDP) throwing their hats in the ring.

In Chatham-Kent-Leamington, as of right now, Dave Epp (Conservative) is the only announced candidate. But that could change quickly.

Sarnia-Lambton-Bkejwanong, which includes Sarnia and Walpole Island, is still waiting on more candidate announcements. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more!
