Congress leader Alka Lamba took to social media to share an old photograph from 1995, recalling the time she and Rekha Gupta took their oaths together. While Lamba represented the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) as Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) President, Gupta was elected General Secretary from Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
Keeping political differences aside, Lamba congratulated Rekha Gupta on becoming the Chief Minister of Delhi and wished her success. She also expressed hope for a cleaner Yamuna River and improved safety for women in the capital.

Rekha Gupta Becomes Delhi’s Fourth Woman Chief Minister
Rekha Gupta, a prominent BJP leader, has been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi. Her oath ceremony was held at Ramlila Maidan, marking the BJP’s return to power in the capital after 27 years. Gupta defeated Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Bandana Kumari by 29,595 votes in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections.
BJP's Victory and Cabinet Ministers
Along with Rekha Gupta, six other BJP leaders took their oaths as cabinet ministers:
-
Parvesh Verma – Defeated Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi seat
-
Kapil Mishra – Won from Karawal Nagar
-
Ashish Sood – Representing Janakpuri
-
Pankaj Singh – Elected from Vikaspuri
-
Ravindra Raj – Secured victory in Bawana
-
Manjinder Singh Sirsa – Won from Rajouri Garden
This landslide victory has established BJP's strong presence in Delhi politics once again.
Political Implications and Future Expectations
The BJP's win in Delhi is significant as it ends nearly three decades of non-BJP rule in the capital. With Rekha Gupta at the helm, the party has assured major reforms, especially in sectors like women's safety and environmental sustainability.
Meanwhile, the Congress leader Alka Lamba’s post serves as a reminder of the political journeys of both leaders and how student politics plays a key role in shaping future politicians.
