Nainar Nagendran to Replace Annamalai as Tamil Nadu BJP Chief
BJP MLA from Tirunelveli, Nainar Nagendran, is all set to take over as the new president of the BJP's Tamil Nadu unit. On Friday, he submitted his nomination for the post, and since he was the only candidate, his appointment is now almost certain.
Nagendran’s name was officially proposed by outgoing state president K Annamalai. His nomination was also backed by several senior leaders, including Union Minister L Murugan, former Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan, and Mahila Morcha chief Vanathi Srinivasan.
According to party sources, the official announcement confirming his appointment will be made tomorrow (April 12) at the BJP headquarters in Delhi.
Who is Nainar Nagendran?
Nainar Nagendran is currently serving as the vice president of BJP's Tamil Nadu unit and represents the Tirunelveli constituency in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. He was previously associated with the AIADMK before joining the BJP.
Nagendran was the first leader to reach the BJP’s state headquarters, Kamalalayam, in T Nagar on Friday morning to file his nomination. His move to contest the leadership post was seen as a strong indication of internal consensus within the party.
