Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a strong attack on the Congress party during a special debate in the Lok Sabha on the Indian Constitution’s 75th anniversary. He accused the Congress of "strangulating democracy" during the Emergency imposed in 1975. His comments came on the first day of a two-day debate in the Lok Sabha, marking a significant moment in India’s political discourse.

The debate, which began on November 26, is a special session to honor the Constitution's completion of 75 years. It highlights India's democratic journey and the importance of safeguarding the Constitution. The Rajya Sabha will also hold its debate on Monday and Tuesday.

During the session, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the newly-elected Congress MP from Wayanad, delivered her maiden speech. She criticized the government and the ruling BJP over various issues. Priyanka, who contested her first election after her brother Rahul Gandhi vacated the Wayanad seat, has already made her mark in Indian politics with a massive win in Kerala.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other ruling party leaders also participated in the debate, discussing the Constitution’s role in shaping India’s democratic values.

The Winter Session of Parliament, which started in November, will conclude on December 20. With the ongoing debates, both Congress and BJP are expected to focus on highlighting their respective views on India's democratic framework and the significance of the Constitution in modern India.

This session is a crucial moment in the political calendar as it brings attention to India's democratic principles while also offering a platform for leaders to voice their concerns over the nation's governance and political future.
