Political circles in Tamil Nadu are abuzz after political strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor met actor-turned-politician Vijay at his Chennai residence. The meeting, facilitated by Aadhav Arjuna, the election campaign head of Vijay’s party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has led to speculation about a potential realignment in the state's political landscape.

Although TVK sources dismissed the meeting as a mere "courtesy call," many believe it could signify a strategic move ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections next year.

Is a TVK-AIADMK Alliance on the Cards ?

The timing of the meeting has raised eyebrows, especially as the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC), a firm formerly led by Prashant Kishor, is reportedly finalizing a deal with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).

A senior AIADMK leader revealed that if negotiations succeed, the party may sign an agreement with I-PAC on February 24, coinciding with former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s birth anniversary. This has fueled speculation that TVK and AIADMK may join forces to challenge the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).

Kishor’s Role: Advisor or Political Player ?

While Kishor officially stepped away from political consulting after his firm aided the Trinamool Congress in its 2021 West Bengal victory, his presence in Tamil Nadu politics cannot be ignored. A close associate of Kishor clarified that he is no longer a consultant but a politician. However, some believe he may still be influencing key decisions behind the scenes.

BJP’s Interest in the Tamil Nadu Opposition

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), aiming to expand its influence in Tamil Nadu, is reportedly maneuvering behind the scenes to prevent anti-DMK forces from splitting votes. If TVK aligns with AIADMK, it could strengthen the opposition’s position against the ruling DMK.

A senior AIADMK leader disclosed that while the party is non-committal about an alliance with TVK, discussions are taking place at the "Delhi level." The BJP is open to a TVK-AIADMK alliance even if it does not directly involve them.

Challenges in Forming an Alliance

Despite the speculation, forming an alliance between TVK and AIADMK is not straightforward. AIADMK leaders believe Vijay must acknowledge AIADMK’s strength rather than approach them as equals. Edappadi K Palaniswami, AIADMK’s leader, has remained non-committal, indicating that the party will observe developments before making a final decision.

Will Tamil Nadu’s Political Landscape Change ?

With Tamil Nadu politics gearing up for the 2026 Assembly elections, every strategic move matters. If TVK and AIADMK join forces, it could reshape the opposition. However, if no alliance is formed, votes may get divided, potentially benefiting DMK. The coming months will be crucial in determining the state’s political future.
