Trump Slams Russia Over Intense Bombing in Ukraine
Washington, D.C. – President Donald Trump on Monday voiced strong disapproval of Russia’s continued airstrikes in Ukraine, calling the attacks “crazy” and saying the violence must stop.
Speaking to reporters from the White House, Trump said he was “not happy” with the ongoing destruction, even as his administration works to broker a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.
“Russia is bombing like crazy right now. It’s not a good situation,” Trump told the press, highlighting his frustration as U.S.-led negotiations inch toward a possible resolution.
Trump Pushes for Peace but Slams Escalation
Trump emphasized that peace talks are progressing, with U.S. officials holding ongoing meetings with both Russian and Ukrainian representatives. But he expressed concern about the recent spike in violence.
“We’re getting sort of close [to a deal],” he said. “But I’m not happy with all the bombing that’s happened in the last week or so. It’s a horrible thing.”
The former president, who returned to the White House in January, previously promised to bring the war to an end within 24 hours of taking office. However, Russia’s latest actions have made that goal more challenging.
Kremlin Supports Truce, But Adds Conditions
Earlier Monday, the Kremlin signaled it was open to a ceasefire in Ukraine but raised multiple questions about how such a deal would work. This has fueled skepticism in the U.S. and Europe, with some leaders accusing Moscow of delaying peace for strategic gain.
Despite the Kremlin’s comments, Russian airstrikes have continued across Ukraine, even as negotiations move forward behind closed doors.
Trump Criticized Putin Again
Trump’s criticism of Russian President Vladimir Putin marks a sharp contrast from past remarks. In March, he said he was “pissed off” with Putin over his refusal to end the war. On Sunday, he repeated his stance, stating, “We’d like them to stop. I don’t like the bombing.”
The latest developments underscore the difficulty of reaching a ceasefire while military attacks remain active on the ground.
Russia Rejected March Ceasefire Proposal
Last month, a joint U.S.-Ukrainian proposal for a full and unconditional ceasefire was presented to Russia, but President Putin declined the offer, continuing his military campaign instead.
