More than 66,000 people watched as Australia beat India in a thrilling match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The win gave Australia a 2-1 lead in the series.
The turning point came after Tea when Rishabh Pant made a big mistake. He tried to hit a short ball from Travis Head but sent it straight to Mitchell Marsh at long-on. This gave Australia confidence and started India's downfall.
After Pant’s wicket, Australia took two more quick ones. Scott Boland got Ravindra Jadeja out, and Nathan Lyon sent Nitish Reddy back for just 1 run. India went from 121/3 to 130/6, and Australia’s chances of winning became much stronger.
Washington Sundar came to bat with five fielders around him, and Australia kept the pressure on by talking to him and Jaiswal. Pat Cummins took the key wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal. Jaiswal tried to pull a short ball but missed, and the third umpire ruled him out after a review.
Akash Deep quickly got out too, and India was now seven wickets down. Australia was close to winning.
The match started badly for India’s top order. Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli all got out early. Rohit edged a ball to gully, Rahul couldn’t keep his bat away from a good delivery, and Kohli chased a wide ball and got out.
In the middle session, Jaiswal and Pant played well and gave India some hope. But after Pant got out, Australia moved closer to victory. They had all their fielders around the bat. Boland took Bumrah’s wicket, and Lyon got the last wicket to end the game.
Australia won the match and now leads the series 2-1.
