Australia is getting closer to winning the second Test against Sri Lanka, thanks to a brilliant century from wicketkeeper Alex Carey. On Day 3, Australia scored a total of 414 runs before being bowled out, giving them a 157-run lead over Sri Lanka.
Alex Carey’s Stunning Century
Alex Carey played a fantastic inning, scoring 156 runs, which is now the highest score by an Australian wicketkeeper in Asia, beating Adam Gilchrist’s record of 144. Carey’s batting was a key factor in Australia’s big total. He used his skills against Sri Lanka’s spin bowlers, playing powerful sweeps and reverse sweeps to keep the scoreboard moving.
156 from 188 balls, with 15 fours and two sixes.

Steve Smith's Support and Sri Lanka’s Fightback
Steve Smith also contributed with 131 runs, his second century of the series. He and Carey shared a huge partnership of 259 runs for the fourth wicket, which is the highest-ever for Australia in Sri Lanka at that position.
Sri Lanka’s Prabath Jayasuriya was the best bowler for the hosts, taking 5 wickets, but it wasn’t enough to stop Australia from gaining a strong lead. With the first innings wrapped up, Sri Lanka now faces a tough task to catch up and save the Test.
Australia is in a strong position to win the series 2-0, and Sri Lanka will need a great performance to turn things around.
