In an exciting Indian Super League (ISL) match, Kerala Blasters FC made history by winning 3-1 against Chennaiyin FC on January 30, 2025. This was their first-ever away win against Chennaiyin FC, marking an important moment in the rivalry between the two teams.

Strong Performance

The Blasters took control of the match right from the start. Jesus Jimenez scored the first goal in the third minute, taking advantage of a mistake by Chennaiyin’s defense. Ten minutes later, Jimenez almost scored again, but Chennaiyin’s goalkeeper, Mohammed Nawaz, made a great save. The Blasters kept up the pressure, and at just 18 years old, Korou Singh became the second-youngest goal scorer in ISL history, adding a second goal for Kerala before halftime. Singh’s goal also made him the youngest ever Kerala Blasters goal scorer. In the 56th minute, Kwame Peprah sealed the victory with a third goal.

Controversy and a Red Card

Chennaiyin's night took a turn for the worse when Wilmar Jordan Gil received a red card in the 37th minute following a clash with Milos Drincic. This left Chennaiyin with ten men and further tilted the balance in Kerala's favor. Chennaiyin's head coach, Owen Coyle, expressed his anger over the decision, even confronting commentator Robin Singh in the post-match press conference, calling the red card a "travesty" and questioning Singh's football expertise. While Vincy Barretto scored a late consolation goal for Chennaiyin, it was too little, too late.

A Historic Win

This win moves Kerala Blasters up to eighth place in the ISL standings with 24 points. The victory showed their great teamwork and talent, with Korou Singh’s performance being a standout. For Chennaiyin, the loss dropped them to tenth place with 18 points after 19 games.
