The Bulldogs Absolutely Crushed the Giants in Canberra!
Seriously, the Western Bulldogs completely dismantled the GWS Giants on Saturday night at Manuka Oval. The final score? A resounding 17.11 (113) to 12.9 (81). It was a total domination, extending their winning streak against the Giants to eight out of the last nine matches. Who saw that coming? I certainly didn't expect such a one-sided affair.
That Third Quarter, Though...
The first half was pretty close, a real back-and-forth battle. But then the third quarter hit, and it was like flipping a switch. The Bulldogs kicked five goals in a row – unanswered! – and suddenly they were up by a massive 37 points. It was brutal to watch for the Giants fans, I imagine. The Giants barely managed a sniff at goal, only scoring their first point of the second half with 12 minutes left in the final quarter. Even Nathan Buckley on Fox Footy was blown away, talking about how the Bulldogs' slick transition and field position completely overwhelmed the Giants.
Star Players and Smart Moves
James Harmes was on fire for the Bulldogs, booting four goals. The forward line was clicking, too, with the combination of Rory Lobb, Buku Khamis, and Aaron Naughton proving incredibly effective. And let's not forget Jedd Busslinger's impressive debut – what a way to make a first impression! Even with Marcus Bontempelli having to be subbed out early in the fourth quarter with a calf injury, the Dogs never really looked like losing. Their dominance was just incredible.
Beveridge's Gamble Paid Off
Luke Beveridge made a pretty big call, dropping key defender Liam Jones. It sparked a lot of debate among fans, that's for sure. But turns out, it was a masterstroke. The move didn’t hurt the team at all; in fact, it arguably helped them. It shows Beveridge isn't afraid to make tough decisions, which is pretty admirable. Jesse Hogan's return for the Giants was a positive for them, but it wasn't nearly enough to counter the Bulldogs' sheer force.
What's Next?
This win really underlines the Bulldogs' current form. They're clearly a step above the Giants right now, and their record against them speaks for itself – eight wins from nine games is pretty dominant. This victory is a huge boost for their season, even with Sam Darcy out injured. For the Giants, though, it highlights a need to seriously rethink their defensive strategies. They need to find a way to cope with the pressure from stronger teams.
