Bunnings Celebrates Aussie Rules Footy Volunteers with "Legend of the Tongs"
Bunnings Warehouse, Australia's beloved hardware retailer, is launching a heartwarming nationwide campaign, "Legend of the Tongs," to honor the unsung heroes of Aussie Rules Football – the community volunteers who tirelessly man the BBQs each game day. This initiative, in partnership with the AFL, shines a light on these dedicated individuals who keep local clubs thriving.
Celebrating the BBQ Legends
Running throughout the 18-week AFL season, the campaign invites clubs across Australia to nominate their "BBQ legends" via the Bunnings website. Each week, five lucky winners will receive a prize pack including a Jumbuck 6-Burner BBQ and a Bunnings pop-up marquee, significantly upgrading their club's facilities. Eight finalists will then be selected for an unforgettable trip to the Toyota AFL Grand Final, with one ultimately crowned the "Legend of the Golden Tongs" and awarded a massive $25,000 worth of Bunnings products for their club.
More Than Just a Giveaway
"We know the heart of Australian rules footy lives in local communities," says Katie Hynes, Head of Community, Partnerships & Events at Bunnings. "It’s these unsung heroes who tirelessly show up week in and week out." The campaign, spearheaded by AFL legend Matthew Richardson, launched during Gather Round, highlighting Bunnings' commitment to supporting grassroots sports and the vital role volunteers play.
Richard Chapman, Bastion Managing Director of Corporate Communications and PR, emphasizes the campaign's genuine intent: "We wanted to build a campaign that wasn’t just about prizes or promotion, but about honouring the people who roll up their sleeves every weekend."
