Troy Selwood, a former Brisbane Lions player and brother of Geelong premiership captain Joel Selwood, has tragically passed away at the age of 40. His death was confirmed on Tuesday through a statement from the AFL on behalf of the Selwood family.

Family’s Tribute to Troy Selwood

In the statement, the Selwood family expressed their heartbreak, saying, “We are heartbroken by the loss of our son, brother, and father, Troy. He was a loving son, brother, and father, and will be deeply missed.” The family highlighted Troy’s generosity, humour, and compassion, stating that he brought light to everyone who knew him. His family also shared that Troy touched many lives through his work in the AFL and his more recent role at Geelong Grammar School.

Troy Selwood’s AFL Career and Legacy

Troy Selwood was drafted 19th overall by the Brisbane Lions in the 2002 AFL Draft. He debuted in the 2005 season, playing 75 games and kicking 11 goals for the Lions. After being delisted by Brisbane in 2010, Selwood returned to Victoria to play in the VFL with Geelong, where he captained the team to a 2012 VFL premiership.

In recent years, Troy worked as a recruiter, supporting young AFL players. He was known for his passion for developing talent and his positive impact on those around him.
