Former NBA center Oliver Miller has passed away at the age of 54, as confirmed by the National Basketball Retired Players Association. His death was first reported by Phoenix Suns broadcaster Eddie Johnson.
Miller, a native of Fort Worth, Texas, was selected 22nd overall in the 1992 NBA Draft after playing college basketball at Arkansas. Under coach Nolan Richardson, he helped the Razorbacks achieve great success, including three SEC titles and a Final Four appearance in 1990.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Arkansas legend Oliver Miller. A key member of the 1990 Final Four team, an SWC Hall of Famer, a first round NBA draft pick and a true embodiment of the Razorback spirit.

During his nine-year NBA career, Miller played for six teams, including the Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors, Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, and Minnesota Timberwolves. He averaged 7.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game. As a rookie, he was part of the Suns team that reached the 1993 NBA Finals against Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls.
After leaving the NBA in 2000, Miller played in international leagues in Poland, Puerto Rico, and China before making a brief return with the Timberwolves in 2003-04.
In his later years, Miller faced legal troubles and was sentenced to a year in jail in 2012. However, by 2020, he was reportedly living in Phoenix, enjoying time with his grandchildren and his NBA pension.
Miller is remembered for his unique playing style, combining size and skill, and for his contributions to both college and professional basketball.
