The men's 10m air rifle team, which included world champion Rudrankksh Patil, Olympian Divyansh Panwar, and Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar, won gold at the Asian Games in Hangzhou.
The trio not only won first place but also broke the world record for a team event with a total score of 1893.7 in the qualification round. Rudrankksh Patil led the charge with 632.5 points, followed by Aishwarya Tomar with 631.6 points and Divyansh Panwar with 629.6 points, setting a new world record.
Furthermore, both Rudrankksh and Aishwarya qualified for the Men's Individual 10m Air Rifle final, cementing their supremacy in the sport.
This remarkable achievement comes less than a month after the Chinese team set the previous world record of 1893.3 at the World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan.
South Korea won the silver medal with a total score of 1890.1 points, while China took bronze with 1888.2 points.
Rudrankksh Patil won the 10m air rifle in December 2022. He earned a Paris 2024 Olympic quota after winning gold in the 10m air rifle event at the 2022 ISSF World Shooting Championships.
While, Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar set junior national and world records in the 50m rifle three-prone position event and the 50m rifle three-prone position, earning the Eklavya Award from Madhya Pradesh in 2019.
And, Diyansh Panwar won gold and silver medals in the 10m Air Rifle at the 2019 ISSF World Cups in Putian and Beijing, and he was a member of India's shooting contingent at the Tokyo Olympics, earning a quota berth.
India's triumph in this event was the country's first gold medal at the Asian Games Hangzhou, adding to their overall medal tally of seven, which included one gold, three silver, and three bronze medals.
The shooting events at the Asian Games will continue until October 1, with 33 medal events taking place across rifle, pistol, and shotgun categories at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre. Olympian Manu Bhaker and former world champion Rudrankksh Patil are two of the 33-member Indian contingent's standout performers.
