The 2025 cricket season in India is almost here! The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the official start dates for the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Women’s Premier League (WPL).
Start Dates and Finals
The IPL 2025 will begin on March 23, 2025, and the final match will be on May 25, 2025. Earlier, it was expected to start on March 14, but the BCCI pushed the date to give players rest after the ICC Champions Trophy, which ends on March 9.
The WPL 2025 will start earlier, on February 7, 2025, with its final match on March 2, 2025.
WPL 2025 Venues
Rajiv Shukla also shared the venues for WPL 2025. The matches will be held in four cities: Baroda, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Lucknow. This means most of the teams will play in their home cities, except for Delhi Capitals, who will play away at all venues.
IPL 2025 Format
The IPL 2025 will feature 74 matches, just like in the 2023 and 2024 seasons. There were talks of increasing the number of matches to 84, or even 94, in future seasons, but the BCCI has decided to keep it the same for now to avoid overloading players.
Conclusion
Both IPL and WPL 2025 promise to be exciting as they approach! The new dates and formats aim to give players enough rest while ensuring fans enjoy the best of cricket.
