London Marathon 2025: What a Race!
Wow, the 2025 TCS London Marathon was something else! Seriously, over 840,000 people applied – a massive jump, especially amongst the 20-somethings. It just goes to show how huge this race has become, a real global sporting event. Let's dive into the highlights!
The Men's Race: Sawe's Smart Strategy
Kenya's Sebastian Sawe completely dominated the men's race. With about ten kilometers to go, he just took off! He even skipped a water stop – a risky move, but it paid off big time, while his rivals slowed. He finished with an amazing time of 2:02:27. Uganda's Jacob Kiplimo, running his first-ever marathon, came in second, just 70 seconds behind. Sawe? He's definitely one to watch!
- 1st: Sabastian Sawe (KEN) - 2:02:27
- 2nd: Jacob Kiplimo (UGA) - 2:03:37
- 3rd: Alexander Mutiso Munyao (KEN) - 2:04:20
History Made in the Women's Race
Tigist Assefa from Ethiopia? She absolutely smashed it! Not only did she win her first London Marathon, she set a brand new women's-only world record – 2:15:50. That's incredible! This win’s a huge deal after her previous second place finishes in London and at the Paris Olympics. She’s definitely proven she’s a force to be reckoned with. Joyciline Jepkosgei from Kenya took second, but honestly, she was pretty far behind.
- 1st: Tigst Assefa (ETH) - 2:15:50
- 2nd: Joyciline Jepkosgei (KEN) - 2:18:43
- 3rd: Sifan Hassan (NED) - 2:18:59
Wheelchair Races: A Swiss Sweep
Switzerland absolutely cleaned up in the wheelchair races, just like last year. Catherine Debrunner crushed her own course record in the women’s race, while Marcel Hug won his seventh London Marathon! That’s dominance!
A Marathon of Records
The 2025 London Marathon was simply enormous. With 840,000 applications, it's clear how much this race means to people. It’s inspiring to see so many people taking on this challenge, supporting charities and pushing their limits. I'm already thinking about applying for 2026.
The Bottom Line: An Unforgettable Event
The 2025 TCS London Marathon was just incredible. The sheer number of participants, those amazing performances, the incredible athleticism… it all added up to an unforgettable event. Seriously inspiring! So, are you thinking what I’m thinking? Time to throw your hat into the ring for the 2026 race!
