Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami match against Sporting Kansas City in the Champions Cup has been postponed because of bad weather. The game, originally set for Tuesday, will now be played on Wednesday. The reason for the delay is a heavy snowstorm warning in Kansas City, where up to 10 inches of snow are expected.

Why Was the Match Postponed?

The United States National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning, predicting snow and extremely cold temperatures. Because of the snow, it was unsafe for players and fans, so the football organization CONCACAF decided to reschedule the match. Snow could also accumulate on the pitch, making it unplayable.

What’s Next for the Champions Cup?

This match was important for Javier Mascherano’s debut as Inter Miami’s coach. The second leg of the competition will be held on February 25 in Miami. The winners will move on to face Jamaica’s Cavalier FC in the next round of the Champions Cup. Fans will have to wait a little longer for Messi’s first match in this major competition, but safety is the top priority.
