Young Indian cricketer Nitish Kumar Reddy played an important innings in the Boxing Day Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Reddy, who made his debut earlier in the series during the Perth Test, had already scored some useful runs in his previous matches. Before this game, he had scores of 41, 38*, 42, 42, and 16 in the series.
On Day 3 of the fourth Test, India was in trouble at 191/6. The team was at risk of being forced to follow-on, but Reddy stayed calm under pressure. Coming to the crease after Rishabh Pant got out, he batted smartly and reached his first Test half-century. With Washington Sundar’s help, Reddy ensured that India avoided the follow-on.
