You guys, the Perham Yellowjackets wrestling team totally crushed it at the Section 8AA tournament in Glyndon on February 14th, 2025! They're going to STATE! Seriously, the whole town's buzzing.
A Semifinal Showing of Strength
They started strong in the semis against Thief River Falls. It was a real showcase of skill and teamwork. Several Yellowjackets earned tech fall wins – Beckham Bunkowske (107), Dresdan Wegscheid (121), and Jonny Ramos (145) absolutely dominated. Peyton Trout (127), Zayn Wacker (133), Isaac Adams (152), Carsen Ziese (160), and Tiegan Detloff (172) also had key victories (Tiegan even got a forfeit!). Tryston Larson (189), Logan Guck (215), and Cash Burke (285) all got pins, contributing to their impressive 53-10 win. It was a total blowout!
The Championship Showdown
The championship match against Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (DGF)? That was a nail-biter. DGF jumped out to an early lead, and honestly, it was a little nerve-wracking. But our Yellowjackets fought back with everything they had. Bo Bush (114) got a pin, Wegscheid (121) had a major decision, Trout (127) a tech fall, and Ramos (145) pulled off a hard-fought decision. Adams (152) and Ziese (160) also secured some great wins. And then there was Tryston Larson (172) – his decision win was pure grit! But the real hero of the night? Tiegan Detloff (189). His tech fall victory (19-4) over DGF’s Casey Macziewski sealed the 33-25 win for Perham. The place went wild!
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
Coach Jason Vetsch was beyond proud. He talked about all their hard work and dedication all season. He mentioned that this was the first time the whole starting lineup was healthy and ready to go – talk about perfect timing! Tiegan Detloff echoed that sentiment, saying it was amazing to see all their hard work pay off. It really was the perfect blend of talent, teamwork, and perseverance.
Eyes on the State Tournament Prize
So, what’s next? The state tournament! Coach Vetsch is already talking strategy, saying they aren't just going to participate; they’re going to compete for the title. They’ll take a few days to celebrate, but then it's back to the grind – serious training to prepare for the tough competition ahead. The excitement in Perham is palpable. Everyone’s rooting for them to bring home the state championship. These Yellowjackets are definitely ones to watch!
