Kenyan runner Sabastian Sawe emerged victorious in the 2025 London Marathon, completing the race with an impressive time of 2:02:27. This is Sawe’s second marathon win, and he made a significant move between the 30km and 35km marks, recording a rapid 4:18 mile to break away from a competitive field. The race featured top runners, including Eliud Kipchoge and Tamirat Tola, but Sawe’s pace proved too much for the others.

In the women’s race, Ethiopian athlete Tigst Assefa stole the show by setting a new women-only marathon world record. Assefa completed the marathon in a stunning time of 2:15:50. She surged ahead in the final kilometers, distancing herself from second-place finisher Joyciline Jepkosgei of Kenya and third-place Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands.

Participation Milestone

The 2025 London Marathon also set a new participation milestone. The event surpassed the previous record of 55,646 finishers set by the New York City Marathon in 2024. By 6:35 p.m. local time, the organizers confirmed a new world record for the number of finishers.
