May in Singapore: Rain, Rain, Go Away (But Maybe Not!)
So, get this – Singapore's getting ready for a bit more wet weather. The Meteorological Service has put out the word: expect some pretty hefty thundery showers in the afternoons throughout the first half of May. It's not entirely unexpected, following the deluge we had in late April. Seriously, Bukit Timah saw a whopping 113.6mm of rain on April 20th – the highest in two weeks! Honestly, who saw that coming?
Afternoon Thunderstorms and Those Pesky Sumatra Squalls
We're still in inter-monsoon season, which means light and unpredictable winds, and, let's be honest, more lightning than we'd probably prefer. This translates to afternoon thundery showers popping up across the island for the next couple of weeks. And just to spice things up, we might also get some Sumatra squalls in the mornings – bringing with them widespread showers and some seriously gusty winds. It's like Mother Nature decided to throw a party and didn't bother with the invite list.
Heat and Humidity: The Double Whammy
Here's the kicker: despite all the rain, it's still going to be seriously hot! We're talking daily maximum temperatures around 34°C, maybe even hitting 35°C on some days. Remember to stay hydrated, people! Seriously, don't underestimate the power of the Singapore heat – it's a force to be reckoned with. Take it easy during the hottest parts of the day; stay indoors if possible and grab a refreshing drink.
April's Weather: A Sneak Peek at May
April gave us a pretty good preview of what's in store. The last couple of weeks were a bit of a rollercoaster – moderate to heavy showers on most days, with rainfall well above average in many areas. And, to add insult to injury, the temperatures soared above 34°C on 11 days! Admiralty even hit a scorching 36°C on April 25th. It kinda felt like watching a slow-motion trainwreck. You knew it was coming, but couldn't stop it.
