South Africa’s 2-0 series win over Sri Lanka has turned the World Test Championship (WTC) race into a three-way battle. With New Zealand’s hopes dashed after two defeats to England, the focus now shifts to South Africa, Australia, and India as they fight for a spot in the WTC final at Lord’s next June.

South Africa’s Strong Position
After a weak start to their WTC campaign, South Africa has risen to the top of the table with five consecutive wins. Their current win percentage is 63.33%. A single win against Pakistan will guarantee them a ticket to Lord’s, and two wins could see them finish at the top. However, if they lose both Tests to Pakistan, they risk missing out, with India and Australia likely surpassing them. South Africa’s fewer matches means each result carries a heavy weight.

Australia’s Path to the Final
Australia briefly climbed to the top spot after a dominant win in Adelaide but slipped to second after South Africa’s victory in Gqeberha. To stay in contention, Australia needs at least two wins from their three remaining Tests against India. If the Border-Gavaskar Trophy ends 2-2, they must win at least one Test in Sri Lanka. A series loss to India would require them to win both Tests in Sri Lanka to progress without relying on South Africa’s results.

India’s Precarious Situation
India, despite being two-time WTC finalists, find themselves in a tough spot after four defeats in their last five Tests. To stay in the race without depending on other results, India needs to win at least two and draw one of their three remaining Tests in Australia. If Australia and Sri Lanka both win 2-0, India’s chances could be over. If India ends with a 2-2 draw in Australia and both Australia-Sri Lanka Tests are drawn, India will advance due to more series wins. As the WTC race narrows, these three teams must secure crucial wins to avoid depending on others and earn their place in the Lord's final.
