Kohli, who had been searching for form after a string of challenging performances, showcased his determination by scoring a crucial fifty in the second inning. Despite being dismissed in the first inning, the former Indian captain bounced back with a brave and much-needed fifty, displaying glimpses of his vintage self. His 53-run mark in the second innings saw him cross the significant 9,000-run milestone in Test cricket.

With this achievement, Kohli joins the powerful group of Indian cricket legends, including Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Sunil Gavaskar. These three cricket greats are the only other Indians to have surpassed the 9,000-run mark in Test cricket. Sunil Gavaskar was the first to do so in 1985, taking 192 innings. Tendulkar, widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time, reached the milestone in 2004 after 179 innings, while Dravid, known as "The Wall" for his solid defense, was the fastest Indian to achieve it in just 176 innings in 2006.
Notably, Kohli took more than two and a half years to move from 8,000 to 9,000 runs, having reached the 8,000-run mark in March 2022. His innings in Bengaluru marked his first fifty-plus score in Test cricket since December 2023, making it a highly anticipated and well-earned moment for his fans.
