In a move to cater to customers who use mostly voice and SMS services, Airtel has introduced new prepaid tariff plans without data, following a directive by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). TRAI has asked telecom operators to create separate plans specifically for voice and SMS services to benefit certain user groups, such as senior citizens and people in rural areas. These plans are tailored to give more flexibility to customers who do not require data.
Rs. 509 Plan
The Rs. 509 prepaid plan provides unlimited local and roaming calls, along with 900 SMS for a validity of 84 days (roughly 3 months). For users who also need data, Airtel offers a similar Rs. 569 plan, which includes 6GB of data in addition to the benefits of unlimited calls and SMS.
Rs. 1999 Plan
For customers looking for a longer validity period, the Rs. 1999 plan offers unlimited local and roaming calls, along with 3600 SMS for a full year (365 days). This plan previously came with 24GB of data, but now it only includes voice and SMS services. If you require data, Airtel offers an upgraded plan for Rs. 2249 that provides the extra data along with the voice and SMS benefits.
Post-SMS Charges
Once customers exceed the SMS limit of the plans, a charge of Re. 1 per local SMS and Rs. 1.5 per STD SMS will apply.
Additional Benefits
Both plans come with several attractive benefits. Customers will receive access to the Airtel Xstream App for entertainment content, membership to Apollo 24|7 Circle, and free Hello Tunes to personalize their calls.
Availability
These plans can be easily recharged via the Airtel Thanks app or the Airtel website. Airtel's competitors are expected to follow suit and introduce similar voice and SMS-focused plans soon.
