Just a week after launching iOS 18.3, Apple has rolled out a critical security update—iOS 18.3.1—on Monday for all eligible iPhones. This update fixes a serious security flaw that could allow unauthorized access to an iPhone.
The update, which is about 450 MB for users already on iOS 18.3, patches a "zero-day" exploit. This flaw could let attackers bypass USB Restricted Mode, a feature that protects locked iPhones from unauthorized data access. Apple confirmed that this issue has been exploited in highly sophisticated attacks targeting specific individuals.
With iOS 18.3.1, Apple has ensured that even if an iPhone is physically attacked, hackers can no longer disable USB Restricted Mode to access data. While this update does not introduce new features, it closes a major security loophole, making it essential for iPhone users to install.
The update is available for iPhone XS and newer models. A similar iPadOS 18.3.1 update is also available for select iPad models, including iPad Pro, iPad Air (3rd generation and later), iPad (7th generation and later), and iPad mini (5th generation and later). This ensures iPads remain protected from the same vulnerability.
iPhone and iPad users are advised to update their devices as soon as possible to stay secure.
