Elecom has introduced the world's first consumer-grade sodium-ion power bank, the Na+ Sodium-Ion Mobile Battery. With a 9000mAh capacity and 45W USB-C output, it offers a safer, more eco-friendly alternative to lithium-ion batteries.
A Greener and Safer Battery Alternative
Unlike lithium-ion batteries, sodium-ion technology uses sodium, which is more abundant, environmentally friendly, and ethically sourced. This reduces supply chain issues and minimizes harmful mining practices.
Sodium-ion batteries are also more stable and safer, with a lower risk of overheating or fire. Additionally, they work in extreme conditions, functioning at -35°C to 50°C. Elecom claims the power bank lasts 5,000 charge cycles, about ten times more than traditional lithium-ion batteries.
Charging Capabilities and Design
The power bank supports USB-C PD charging up to 45W, capable of powering smartphones, tablets, and some laptops. It also features an 18W USB-A port. While it weighs 350g, making it slightly heavier than lithium-ion alternatives, its compact size (87×31×106mm) ensures portability.
A full charge can power a 1,800mAh smartphone 2.9 times or a 3,000mAh smartphone 1.7 times.
Pricing and Availability
Elecom’s sodium-ion power bank is available in black (DE-C55L-9000BK) and light grey (DE-C55L-9000LGY) for 9,980 yen (~$68). It’s currently available for preorder on Elecom’s Direct Shop, with a limit of three per customer. International availability remains uncertain.
