Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, has launched Grok-3, an advanced chatbot that he claims is the “smartest AI on Earth.” Grok-3 is said to outperform major AI models, including Google’s Gemini, DeepSeek’s V3, Anthropic’s Claude, and OpenAI’s GPT-4o, in math, science, and coding.
Musk revealed that Grok-3 has over ten times the computing power of its previous version and finished pre-training in early January. He assured users that the AI will keep improving daily.
A key new feature introduced alongside Grok-3 is DeepSearch, a smart search engine that explains its reasoning and offers research, brainstorming, and data analysis capabilities. Musk also announced plans for a voice-based chatbot soon.
Grok-3 is now available for Premium+ subscribers on X (formerly Twitter). xAI is also launching a new subscription service, SuperGrok, for users who access the AI through its mobile app and website, Grok.com. Musk plans to open-source older versions of Grok once the latest model is stable.
A Growing AI Rivalry
Musk’s xAI is competing fiercely with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. He has criticized OpenAI for shifting toward a for-profit model and even sued the company, accusing it of abandoning its original mission. Recently, Musk offered to buy OpenAI’s nonprofit arm for $97.4 billion, but his bid was rejected.
AI Industry’s Rapid Growth
AI companies are raising huge amounts of money. xAI is currently seeking $10 billion in funding, which could value the company at $75 billion. Meanwhile, OpenAI is aiming for a $40 billion investment, potentially pushing its valuation to $300 billion.
Other players are also entering the competition. Last month, Chinese AI company DeepSeek launched R1, an open-source AI model that rivals top US competitors at a lower cost.
As AI technology continues to evolve, the race between xAI, OpenAI, and other companies is heating up, shaping the future of artificial intelligence.
