A massive network outage has struck TPG Telecom, one of Australia’s largest telecommunications providers, leaving millions of customers without internet access. The disruption began on Monday afternoon at approximately 5:20 pm and has since affected broadband services nationwide.
TPG, the country's third-largest telco, provides services to over five million mobile users and two million broadband customers. The scale of the outage has sparked widespread frustration among users, many of whom have been unable to access essential online services.
Adding to the frustration, TPG’s website and service status page have also gone offline, displaying a "504 Gateway Time-out" error. The lack of official updates has led to thousands of complaints on the company’s official X (formerly Twitter) page, but TPG has yet to acknowledge or provide any explanation for the outage.
Angry customers have taken to social media to demand transparency and updates from the company. One user on X wrote, "While your team is working on DR, pls establish an urgent Comms channel to inform your customers on status. Silence in comms is not good in such circumstances."
Another user expressed their frustration humorously, tweeting, "Will you at least acknowledge the outage for the millions of impacted customers? By the way, I like the hold music on your phone lines, it’s kind of catchy but loses its rhythm after 20 minutes."
The widespread failure has reignited concerns over the reliability of Australia’s telecommunications infrastructure, especially following recent high-profile network disruptions across the country. Many are calling for improved transparency and better disaster recovery measures to prevent such large-scale outages in the future.
As of now, TPG has not provided an estimated time for service restoration, leaving affected customers anxiously waiting for updates and a resolution.
