Fans of the Ninja Gaiden series, get ready! Ninja Gaiden 4, the much-awaited sequel to the legendary action game series, is set to release in fall 2025. The game will be available on Xbox Series X and S, PC via Steam, and PlayStation 5. Excitingly, it will also be a day one Xbox Game Pass title.
The first teaser for Ninja Gaiden 4 was revealed as a surprise announcement during Microsoft’s Xbox Developer Direct 2025, according to Newsweek.
New Era for Ninja Gaiden
Ninja Gaiden 4 is being developed by Team Ninja and PlatinumGames, marking the first new installment in the series since Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z in 2014. Fumihiko Yasuda, the head of Team Ninja, mentioned that fans have been asking for a new Ninja Gaiden game for years. He credited PlatinumGames’ expertise and support from Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer for making this exciting project possible.
Set in a cyberpunk version of Tokyo, the game will introduce a new playable character named Yakumo. However, the iconic ninja Ryu Hayabusa will still play a significant role in the story, according to Yuji Nakao, a director at PlatinumGames.
A Look Back at Ninja Gaiden’s Legacy
The Ninja Gaiden series has a long history, especially with Xbox. The reboot of the series started in 2004, putting Ryu Hayabusa in the spotlight. The follow-up, Ninja Gaiden Black (2005), is still regarded as one of the best action games of all time.
