Sony is giving PlayStation Plus users an extra five days of service after a major PlayStation Network (PSN) outage over the weekend.

The network went down late on Friday, leaving players unable to sign in, play online, or access the PlayStation Store. It lasted for about 18 hours before being fully restored by Saturday evening.

Sony apologized for the issue in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) but did not explain what caused the outage. Many gamers voiced their frustration online, with one saying, "PlayStation is back up, but it ruined our Saturday."

PSN is crucial for millions of players worldwide, and tracking site Downdetector.com reported thousands of complaints, especially from the U.S. and U.K.

Although this outage was frustrating, Sony has faced bigger problems in the past. In 2011, a cyberattack exposed personal data of 77 million users, forcing a month-long shutdown.

While the extra five days of PlayStation Plus is a nice gesture, some users still want more answers about what went wrong.
