Sony Raises PlayStation 5 Prices by Up to 25% in Select Countries
Sony has announced a price hike for its popular gaming console PlayStation 5, citing inflation, currency changes, and new tariffs as key reasons. The increase affects the PS5 Digital Edition in several global markets, while India is currently unaffected.
In an official press release shared on Sunday, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) called the move a "tough decision" but necessary due to the challenging global economic climate.
“With high inflation, exchange rate pressures, and recent tariff decisions, we’ve decided to raise the recommended retail price (RRP) of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition in certain countries,” Sony stated.

Why Did Sony Increase PS5 Prices?
This price hike comes shortly after Donald Trump announced sweeping tariffs on April 2, affecting several countries including Japan, which faces a 24% tariff on exports to the US. While this does not directly impact all PS5 markets, Sony is feeling the pressure globally due to rising costs and geopolitical changes.
Industry experts believe other tech giants like Apple may soon follow Sony’s lead by adjusting prices of their products globally.
