Tesco has announced that it will be removing a popular feature from its Clubcard app starting next week. From March 7, 2025, customers will no longer be able to use the app to pay for their shopping in-store.
What’s Changing?
Currently, Tesco shoppers can use the Clubcard app to both scan their Clubcard and pay for their purchases in one step. However, this feature, known as Tesco Pay+, is being removed. Going forward, customers will need to scan their Clubcard first and then pay separately using a credit card, debit card, or cash.
Why Is Tesco Making This Change?
According to Tesco, the change is being made to ensure they can continue offering the best value and convenience to shoppers. The company also wants to simplify payment options while still allowing customers to earn points and get Clubcard discounts.
How Can Customers Still Use Their Clubcard?
Although the pay-in-store feature is being removed, shoppers can still:
- Scan their physical Clubcard at the checkout.
- Use the Tesco app to scan their Clubcard for discounts and points.
- Add their Clubcard to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet for quick scanning.
What Should Shoppers Do Before March 7?
If customers have linked their card details in the Tesco app for payments, these will be removed unless they are used for Tesco services like GetGo, Whoosh, or home delivery shopping.
What’s Next for Tesco Clubcard?
Tesco recently started testing personalized Clubcard deals, offering discounts based on a shopper’s most frequent purchases. This trial could bring even more benefits for Clubcard holders in the future.
While the removal of the pay-in-store feature may be inconvenient for some, Tesco is reassuring customers that earning Clubcard points and accessing discounts remains quick and easy.
