Walmart App and Website Experience Major Outage, Disrupting Online Shopping Across the U.S.
Thousands of Users Report Technical Glitches on April 17 :
On April 17, 2025, Walmart’s mobile app and website experienced a widespread outage, leaving thousands of customers unable to shop online. The issue started in the afternoon and continued for several hours, causing frustration for users trying to browse products, place orders, or check out.
The problems began around 3:00 PM Eastern Time. Users quickly took to social media and outage monitoring websites to report a range of issues, including pages not loading, frozen carts, and disappearing orders.
App and Website Unresponsive for Many Shoppers
Customers reported that both the Walmart app and website were either not loading at all or crashing mid-use. Some said they were unable to add items to their carts, while others got stuck during the checkout process. A few users reported completing purchases, only to find their orders had vanished from their account history, with no confirmation emails sent.
These issues affected shoppers across the country, with the southern United States seeing the most reports, according to data from outage-tracking site Down Detector.
Down Detector Shows Spike in Reports
Down Detector, which monitors real-time service outages, recorded over 3,600 reports of issues with Walmart’s digital services during the peak of the incident. The majority of complaints centered around the app not working properly, followed by website loading failures and login errors.
As the evening progressed, the number of new reports gradually dropped, suggesting that Walmart’s technical teams were actively working to fix the problem. However, some customers continued to experience slow loading times and incomplete transactions.
No Official Statement Yet from Walmart
As of now, Walmart has not released an official statement explaining what caused the outage. The company also hasn’t confirmed whether the problem was due to internal server issues, high traffic, or something else. There’s been no indication that the outage was caused by a cybersecurity breach.
In the meantime, customers who are still facing issues with their orders or accounts are advised to contact Walmart’s customer service or visit their local store for help.
