On Friday, PM Narendra Modi said that India is moving towards 6G technology. He said that India saw the fastest roll-out of the 5G technology last year.

In less than a year after the launch, 400,000 5G base stations have been installed in India, according to Modi. "Not only 5G, we are in the direction of becoming a leader in the 6G space."

Modi emphasized that India is now the world's second-largest mobile manufacturer, in contrast to 2014, when the nation was a net importer of mobile devices. He continued by saying that the nation also produces electronics worth Rs. 2 trillion for export.

While inaugurating the Indian Mobile Congress (IMC), Narendra Modi said. “We are not only expanding 5G in the country but also moving in the direction of becoming leaders in the area of 6G technology. Everyone knows what happened during the 2G (referring to the spectrum allocation scam during the UPA regime). During our government, 4G was expanded but there was no stain on us. I am confident that India will lead the world in 6G technology.”

The future will be extremely different, he continued, whether it is in the areas of telecom, technology, or connectivity, or 6G, AI, cybersecurity, semiconductors, drones, or space exploration.

The event was also attended by telecom minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, head of the Aditya Birla group Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman of Reliance Jio Akash Ambani, and CEO of Airtel Sunil Bharti Mittal.

Speaking further, PM Modi mentioned the recent changes in the telecom industry and stated that "Made in India" phones are being used all over the world.

Narendra Modi also revealed that India had moved up from 118th to 43rd place in the world for mobile broadband speed.
