Ambarvale Drive-by Shooting Leaves 65-Year-Old Woman Dead
A drive-by shooting in Ambarvale, a suburb in Sydney’s southwest, has tragically claimed the life of a 65-year-old woman, Kim Duncan. The incident, which occurred on Monday night around 11 pm on Dickens Road, has left the community shocked and police searching for those responsible. Three individuals exited a dark-colored sedan and opened fire on the home, resulting in Ms. Duncan's death from a gunshot wound to the leg. Two other occupants, a 21-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man (Ms. Duncan's son), escaped unharmed.
Targeted Attack, Family Known to Police
NSW Police have confirmed the attack was targeted, although it remains unclear whether Ms. Duncan was the intended victim. Detective Superintendent Grant Healey described the act as "abhorrent" and "reckless," highlighting the devastating consequences of such violence. He further revealed that the home's occupants, who had resided there for approximately six to eight weeks, were known to police. While some family members are cooperating with the investigation, others are understandably distraught and require time to grieve.
Community Reaction and Ongoing Investigation
Nearby residents reported hearing gunshots, describing the scene afterward as filled with emergency vehicles and the sounds of a distressed family. One long-term resident, Louise Hosar, noted that while the area has seen its share of police activity, the incident was particularly disturbing. The police investigation is underway, involving local officers and the homicide squad. Numerous bullet holes were visible at the scene, and investigators are meticulously collecting evidence. Police are appealing to the public for any information, including CCTV or dashcam footage, that could assist in identifying the perpetrators. Strike Force Apslawn has been formed to specifically address this case.
A Community in Mourning
The death of Kim Duncan has cast a pall over the Ambarvale community. The senseless violence has shaken residents, leaving many feeling unsafe and questioning the future. While some have expressed concerns about the safety of Dickens Road, others have emphasized the largely positive nature of the community.
