Son of Steve Jobs has announced the launch of Yosemite a venture capital firm to raise funds required for research on Cancer Treatment.
Apple co-founder Steve Jobs succumbed to pancreatic cancer in 2011 at that time his son Reed was just 17 and was pursuing his oncology degree from Stanford. Reed has always dreamt to be a doctor but his life changed when Jobs died while Reed was pursuing his oncology degree from Stanford. Reed always dreamt of becoming a doctor but his life changed when his father passed away. He switched to a major in History but later returned to his field for his Master's. He even led the Emerson healthcare division with a sole focus on accelerating the discovery and translation of cancer research to improve and empower many lives suffering.
Reed Jobs recently announced a Venture Firm’s launch- which has already opened with a raise of $200 M with a focus on new cancer treatments. Accordingly, Yosemite will focus on early-stage companies in developing innovative cancer therapies.
To this initiative, many investors named John Doerr, Rockefeller University, and MIT have contributed to this big sum.
Reed has stated that he never wanted to become a venture capitalist but he realized that when one is actually incubating something and putting it together, it can make a tremendous difference in the direction it will take and where the scientific focus will be.
As per Deal Book, Yosemite Venture Firm will maintain a run-for-profit business which will also be a donor-advised fund. The idea is to initiate some seed innovation.
Today, Reed Jobs is an active philanthropist and venture investor. His portfolio has many grant programs with many research entities in the United States and the United KIngdom. Also, He is involved in the creation of a Nonprofit which can house altruistically donated patient genomic and even clinical data which can be accessed by researchers across the US.
