Skywatchers all over the world are getting ready for an incredible celestial occasion known as the Super Blue Moon, which is set to brighten the night skies on August 30 and the early hours of August 31, 2023.

This fascinating lunar phenomenon is the result of the meeting of three separate lunar events: a full Moon, a Supermoon, and a blue Moon. The occurrence of two full Moons in the same month is referred to as a "blue Moon." The upcoming lunar event is classified as a monthly blue Moon in this case. This celebration is made much more significant by the fact that it coincides with the Hindu festival of Raksha Bandhan.

There are two main types of blue Moons: monthly and seasonal, with the upcoming Super Blue Moon falling into the latter category. Experts recommend staring at the Moon right after sunset, when it first emerges in the sky, to see this glorious occasion in all its glory. The Super Blue Moon will peak on August 30 at 8:37 p.m. EDT. Meanwhile, viewers in Europe will be able to see the Moon's rise a little later, prolonging the viewing window until August 31. Moonrise is scheduled for 8:08 p.m. BST in London, 7:45 p.m. EDT in New York, and 7:36 p.m. PDT in Los Angeles. The research says that the last blue moon was seen on August 21, 2021.

On the subsequent evening, August 31, the Moon will make its appearance at 8:24 p.m. BST in London. The full Moon will attain its peak brilliance at 1:37 am BST, which corresponds to 9:36 am ET and 7:06 am IST on the same day.

Experts recommend shifting your gaze toward the skies after sunset, particularly during the dark hours, if you want to witness this extraordinary occurrence. If adverse weather prevents you from observing the Super Blue Moon, don't worry: The Virtual Telescope Project offers live streaming, allowing enthusiasts to watch the event from the comfort of their computers. The live webcast is set to begin at 3:30 GMT on August 31 (9:00 am IST on August 31), allowing a global audience to see this cosmic event.
